Istanbul

We were only in Istanbul for a day, but we go so many photos, it was really hard to narrow it down to a page’s worth. I was inspired by the beautiful blue mosaics that we saw all over.

I wanted to recreate a mosaic for my background, but once I started I realized just how much work that was going to be so I decided to just do a focal strip. I cut up one piece of paper from a 6×6 pad in that indigo blue color, and glued it down on white cardstock. That strip took me about 2 40 minute episodes of Lost Girl to complete. But I think it was worth it.

The background paper is from a Recollection’s paper pad (Modern Bouquet), and I put gesso in a circle in the middle, then used the packaging technique to get some shiny blue watercolor all over. I also used my mint spray ink, and some dollar store travel themed stamps with blue ink. Then I covered it up with that paper strip, some washi tape, and tissue paper.

You can see some of it there. Sorry for the blurry travel photos, as we only had a day, we weren’t too fussed with getting perfect photos. And you can see some of the mosaic in the photos below:

For the title, I wanted to recreate the Pink Paislee Cedar Lane Peacock alphas. I thought they were so pretty, but it wasn’t worth ordering just for one layout. And with my trusty Silhouette and some glitter glue, I was able to create a pretty good approximation! These are so pretty in real life, my camera can’t capture how they glimmer.

I did use some Pink Paislee Atlas ephemera though. Like that tag, and the photo corners in the photo above.

We had a spectacular view as the plane was taking off, I had to document that.

Lastly, I used a frame that I designed and cut with my Silhouette (free file found below), to cover up a bit that car that’s in my photo. I was trying to take photos from a moving taxi, so I think it turned out pretty well ;).
