Kremlin Palace Blog Hop SID

Welcome to Stick It Down’s June blog hop!

Several of our design team members have created projects to share with you using any of our past SID sketches. If you’ve never participated in a blog hop before, you’ll “hop” from blog to blog to visit each designer’s page and project. You’ll leave a comment at each stop along the hop. The hop will end here where you started, where you can comment to let us know you’ve completed the hop and you’re entered to win the grand prize. You have until Monday June 6 at 11:59pm to complete the hop. The winner will be announced on or before June 9.

We have several prize packages and one grand prize lined up! Paper Wings Productions is generously sponsoring our blog hop and is offering a gift certificate to the online store!

Paper Wings Productions is owned by Carrie Edelmann Avery. All of the PWP stamps are produced in the USA and are made using the highest quality of materials. You can check out the PWP online store to see the red rubber cling stamps and the clear photopolymer stamps!

In addition the the grand prize, many of our design team members are offering prizes on their blog and we also have a few other prizes lined up. We’ve also made it possible to earn additional entries for prizes by following the SID blog, our Facebook page, the PWP blog, and the PWP Facebook page.

I am slowly plugging away at my travel scrapbook pages; this one is from my trip to Turkey in 2014. My whole family banded together from Russia, Ukraine and Canada, and we all met at a resort in Turkey, on the Mediterranean sea. The resort was called the Kremlin Palace and it was modeled after the cathedral in Moscow. I used this sketch from the StickItDown sketch archive:

Sketch 7 - Single Layout - Team 1 - Smellykat

I was drawn to this sketch by the 4 colourful elements. I had been thinking about doing something fairly similar for the Kremlin Palace page, but using a cut file to make 4 “onion bell tower” shapes to look like the spires of the Palace. So I made the cut files and cut them from white cardstock and backed them with colourful patterned papers. I spent a long time arranging them around the photos, and ended up going for a more organic configuration rather than the grid pattern. I also wanted them to look more 3D, so I staged the amount of backing I put on each spire- nothing on the first one, one layer of foam tape behind the second, two layers behind the third, and foam dots, which were thicker than two layers of foam tape, under the fourth. So it kinda looks like it’s coming out of the page.

3 Fates ARTastic DT Scrapbook Layout

3 fates scrapbook page

So I had the perfect photos for this art inspiration piece for the ARTastic challenge blog. This month we were inspired by John Maitland with Seven Gilrs Running.

John Maitland with Seven Gilrs Running

To me, they are dancers (it’s all in how you interpret art, right?), and the background colours of blue, purple and red, with pops of black, went perfectly with the costumes we made for our 3 Fates choreography. The criteria was girls only, and of course my dance troupe is all girls.

Mom & Me SID Scrapbook Layout

Mom & Me Scrapbook page

This month for the Stick it Down blog, the sketch was this:

Stick it Down may single page

And it seemed pretty basic, until I saw the “any shape” qualifier. I immediately thought of layout I saw recently by Ashley Horton where she fussy cut flowers and made them into an ampersand. I really liked the idea and wanted to scraplift it, but I also wanted to be creative with my own design so I decided to do a heart instead. I wanted to make something special for my mom for mother’s day, so I used a photo of us that I took last mother’s day.

DANCE – ARTastic DT Scrapbook Layout

IMG_3364

This page….. I had the concept, the inspiration, what I didn’t know was what photo and quote to use! I procrastinated starting this for so long. Eventually, Dylan said to me: Just start the background, the rest will come.

Our ARTastic inspiration this month is “We will remember” by Josh Miels, and the criteria was typography.

I love typography and I had so many ideas! Ultimately, I settled on handcut letters arranged to spell out a quote, and a greyscale photo, as well as grey elements in the embellishments, as I wanted the background and words to be pretty colourful.

Happy Memory SID DT Layout

Happy Memory Scrapbook Layout

I have been feeling uninspired to scrapbook lately, and haven’t been doing much crafting. When I realized my due date for the StickItDown design team was coming up, I checked out what the sketch was, started the page, and immediately felt my creative mojo coming back! The sketch itself was pretty simple.

I’ve been wanting to use my cat face paper (Crate Paper Wonder- Curious), so I decided to stick with CP for my page and pulled some from my Flea Market pad for the layers.

February ARTastic DT- On The Prowl Scrapbook Layout

IMG_2387

This month on the ARTastic blog, we were inspired by the lovely painting called Green Lorikeets, by Cathy McClelland:

Green Lorikeets by Cathy McClelland

I was immediately taken by the splattery paint and feather-like leaves and birds. The challenge criteria for this was to use paint on a layout. I knew right away I wanted to splatter/smoosh a lot of paint on a piece of paper and then cut shapes out of it. That way, I could use the crazy neon bright colors and not have it overwhelm my whole layout.

Stick It Down February Challenge – D’AWWW

This month at Stick It Down, our gorgeous sketch was designed by team member Purvi! I loved it, especially because I have been wanting to do an ombre background and quilted squares for a while now, and this gave me the perfect opportunity to do both.
