Freebie Friday – Congratulations Banner

IMG_0785

I’ve been super busy all week planning a surprise brunch bridal/baby shower for a friend. Other than finally having an excuse to clean the apartment from top to bottom, I also have to make some decorations. Last night I made this CONGRATULATIONS banner. I’ve never made a banner before, and it was fun.

My cat loved the process too, especially the part with the string. I was going to hang it in the window, but unfortunately it was right over the cat tree. It lasted up there a whole 1.5 seconds before it was on the floor.

To make these, I took 5 sheets of printer paper and painted them with gold acrylic paint. I used a paint from the dollar store, the color was called “Spun Gold” and I think it’s gorgeous. The photos don’t do it justice. Once the paint dried (such a thin coat that it only took a couple of minutes), I ran the paper through the Silhouette. Each page made 3 pennants. I cut the letters from a page in MME’s On the Bright Side 8.5×11 pad, and glued them to each pennant.

I threaded the pennants onto some green dollar store twine and hung it with washi tape on a wall where the cat can’ t get it. He’s not a jumper. There are two ways you can thread the pennants, I used both methods in the photo above. Which way do you like better?

I have included both a cut file for the pennant and for the word, both to be cut from an 8.5×11 sheet. You can download them here:
